On November 2 the Winthrop chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon hosted their first charity concert. All of the money raised went toward their philanthropy, St Jude’s.
While over fifty tickets were sold, the attendance for the actual event was very low. But that did not stop the bands from playing. Two local bands, Sleeping Policemen and Courteous Monk, got up on stage and put on a great show.
The bands were excited to perform and help raise money for St. Jude’s. For The Sleeping Policemen, this wasn’t the first time they did a charity event like this. They often perform for other charitable organizations.
The vocalist/ guitarist for the group Charles Grace said, “We don’t feel comfortable continuing doing performing as a band for ourselves, so we like to do things that benefit more than just the individuals in the band whether it be St. Jude or we also partner with the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.”
At the end of the night, a portion of the merchandise that was sold went to the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
St. Jude’s was founded by a member of TKE from a different chapter. Winthrop’s TKE chapter has been raising money all semester long for their biggest event of the semester.
